Sky's Valentine

Sometimes the sky
opens like a mouth
to take you in
your mouth speaks back
as you watch how
it manufactures the words
ripping them off and how
they emerge perfectly formed
new cars parked quickly
in distant desert lots
in rows like orphans
once were kept waiting
for inspection if not delivery
too much of the same thing
loses the poetry of it as if
behind its intelligent gaze
the statue sensed it
really couldn’t think
as if behind this intelligible
world there were not
great painters and dancers
great composers
shameless magicians all
we really need to please
