Sunny Valentine

Eighty-five degrees
at eight in the morning
I put the sun-tea out to cook
later today around three
I’m ascending into heaven
but right now all I have to do
is watch the sun’s rays passing
through this clear water slowly
turning leathery golden this is
what happens to a jar of water
left out in the sun all day
it is like a martyr
burned to silky ash
whose pure soul
we drink all week
the Father and I
