the true cause of the first war
since all the wars after that
have only to look over their shoulders
for another reaction to persist
but the very first one
from what smallest slight
it must have grown wart-like
nurtured in warm damp
resentment’s ground
like the corpse of love
for this the god of anger came
to waken the dead
with a single sound
