Bear’s Valentine

What you regard as affection
Said the bear that ate the man
I regard as harassment and demand
And besides I was unreasonably
Hungry in a way that humans
Want to admire without quite
Understanding the strength of
When the real enemy is always someone
Inside us I’m just a bear
Come upon in a clearing
So don’t try to run
Or crouch down
I see you but would prefer
To leave well enough alone
