Cleft’s Valentine

Let’s say twelve pentagons
Get together to make
One gleaming dodecahedron
The shape of the original
Human heart as the gods
Perhaps first envisioned it
Before the cleft was driven
And the mechanism of the blood
Spiraled it into the rhythms
Of time the bodies of time
Which we have come to occupy
How smoothly it’s been sanded
Self-contained as a shining shell
Or a heart-shaped stone
Found on a beach and taken home
That the will that made it
Be used to serve to save it
