Uncertain Valentine

For one dollar
I bought a geranium plant
In perfect health

Though it sat alone
On the discard shelf
For some strange reason

Maybe because it hadn’t
Bloomed yet so the color
Was uncertain and unsellable

At full price though it had
Several plump green flower-buds
Crouched down between the stems

Because I had a spot for it
In my garden and knew it
Wouldn’t take long for it to shine
