As If Valentine

The serpent shadow of the tree I grew
Wraps around me
Its winter will

Light lodges between the branches
So I look out on a darkened world
The wind enhances

With strayings back and forth
Struggling under its embraces
As if it meant to choke and kill

As if I hadn’t seen its birds and buds
The sun climbing up its flank
The effervescence of its flowers

The serpent crushed and writhing
The photographs of love
Before and after
