Sitting
outside tonight
right-field of
the moon
suddenly one
of those spontaneous
city symphonies
occurred
incredible French
and English horns
great whale underbellies
of sound
swelled deep and
faraway
from down the
street
against a
woman’s
almost tender
screaming
as if she was
being murdered
like a great
aria
accompanied by
the faint
drilling sound
of a thousand
strangled tires
in the alley
and then
silence
unaccountably
for a few
eternal
seconds
I don’t want
to live with anyone anymore
I heard myself
say
sometimes I want
to believe that lie
but not today
