and curious desolation
but to the Martians
their home is a glowing
heart-shaped ruby
opening to reveal
a single flame inside
feeding on itself
and I imagine
them glancing
over at the earth
thanking Buddha
they don’t have
to go through hate
and wars and death
like that again
