But how the paint is applied
The subject merely intrudes
On the way the color unfolds
It takes its time in the mind
Of the momentary Tuesday painter
Did he not set out to move us
And isn't it the fingers anyway
That matter in music and painting
You have to have the right elbows
Firm and agile feet it helps
To have worked in a circus
Or know someone who does
