With a single unexpected gesture
Surrendering to his sadness
He leaned his head against the wall
Feeling it was all for naught
The one thing he was good at
No longer wanted by the world
Outnumbered by his failures
To have learned to love
When the offer was there
Finally he had come to the one joy
His whole life could afford
And picked up the phone
To call his granddaughter
Just to hear her voice
