for Lent this year
but then what else do I do
with myself all day
and night but sleep and sing
for all that is still suffering
somewhere to be born
into this world again and again
like when you close your eyes
the colors inside darkness open
the double world which shows
all that refuses to be seen here
staring back at you as from a mirror
seeing the child’s heart
and ancient soul of you
