At Morro Bay Valentine

I thought what I admired most
Was the honesty of the waves
When it's their courage that gets me

Honesty seemed a lovely beach
Gentle waves lapping
I could lie on

And float out into
Which admittedly takes some courage
Given the unknown the undertow

But honesty without the courage
To defend it forcefully
Is such a ruse and subterfuge

In a democracy of one
Unless the waves storm the shore again
Throw up the stones of a new foundation
