Someone's Valentine

Someone appeared on the patio this morning
It was sunny and shady and quiet
I felt its presence and the cat woke up
And looked around at the empty air
So I knew something was there
It was like a feeling looking
For a form or a thought torn
Loose from its moorings
The dissolving spirit of the morning
A sadness and a gladness
Like a gone friend dropping by
A face I strained to identify
But loved once saying
My love would never die
