Even though the beauty of the world
Cannot save us now it stands
In speechless wonder
As a perennial encouragement
To us to save ourselves
Its glories and its sufferings
Offer us pictures of our past
Mountains and rivers we once were
And cast off in our long journeys
Toward affection and remorse
In it everything we've been and done
Returns to be reconciled and owned
The last vestige of a promise we made
To become beautiful ourselves
