When they finally dropped me off
On earth it was in the middle
Of a quarrel my unwed mother
Had to kiss my father off to war
Inside her we took the train
From nowhere north to the busy city
Where we were quite alone
In the hospital for wayward girls
Far from her embarrassed sisters
So I took my time arriving
While she wrote unsent letters
To him and the war got worse
She was only twenty and I
Unsure I was a blessing or a curse
