Slowly on its own say-so
the jade plant started growing
huge and heart-shaped
branches curving down
from its central pivot
until what used to be
a fist-sized planet
orbiting the sun
divided after the war
into four unequal chambers
as you have it now
waking early before the sun
while it’s still raining
carried out into the yard
but by that point
the house’s already burning.
