Membership Valentine

What you can get away with
in poetry is difficult immense
and almost completely surgical
in comparison to poetry’s
true intent

to be a querulous feeling
in everything to the degree
you would never think of
such an odd thing
as poetry

but that’s not what’s going
to show up in this poem
I refuse to be a party to any poem
that would take that
for its member.
