Some promises I couldn't keep
In over my heart and head
The first half of life spent
Managing the damage of the last
The other half planning the next
But I kept developing the idea of me
Until I could detach or cling
I could play the puppet of the gods
Or rule like an enlightened one
I swam like every swimmer
Between the depths and heights
But there were prayers I couldn't pray
And promises I couldn't keep
But may another day or night
