We keep rushing back
Into a cul-de-sac
Of disease and disruption
All with the best and worst intentions
Each country fears its friends
Are few and each person ends up
Becoming someone else
If they live long enough
We are all our own uncertain species
Each one relevant and indispensable
So what if we made a law of kindness
How many would get convicted
Imprisoned in tiny cells
How many would get forgiven
