Exhumed Valentine

A huge pink diamond is dug
And lifted from the rocky earth
Captured by our amazement
Of course it will have to be cut
And shaped by a compassionate hand
One that understands its lineage
I imagine all the beautiful gemstones
Rising up from their graves
The great treasure-hoard of the earth
Dragged to our museums for display
As if the bodies of the gods
Were nothing more than jewelry
And not the seeds of another world
The hardened light of ancient dawns
Melting over future seashores
