Because the sun was in the sky
Flashing his ruby breast
A hummingbird came close enough
To look me in the eye
And fly off unimpressed
Because the sun was in the sky
And the air pristine
From yesterday's rain
And I had nothing to do or say
But startled and under arrest
By that peculiar bird
Who lay no claim
But took me as I am
And left me feeling blessed
