Overwhelmed by all the ordinary cruelties
I have amassed all the shameful episodes
I have been part of or stood silently by
And for which I beg forgiveness for myself
For the presumption it could be forthcoming
If I'm to tame the marmoset I am
And learn to love you one at a time
You masters and great teachers
For which it will take eternity a lot
Of long walks off short piers
As a distant friend used to shout
After the terror the laughter
At the foolishness of God
In giving us the freedom
To reform his heaven
By bringing it down to earth
